ALDOT Work Resulting in Likely Traffic Congestion Beginning July 22nd
Birmingham, AL (July 19, 2016) Guests coming to the BJCC for the “Tiny House Roadshow” or to the Uptown District using Interstates 59 or 65 this weekend should be aware of lane and exit closures on the interstate bridges that will likely cause traffic congestion.
The Alabama Department of Transportation announced closure of the right-hand lane on I-59 northbound from the just north of the exit ramp to I-65 southbound (Exit 124A) to a half-mile north of the exit ramp to 17th Street (Exit 125A). Only the left lane will be open beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, July 22, until 5 a.m. Monday, July 25.
The purpose is to conduct emergency bridge repairs on the concrete bridge that has been deteriorating due to age.
During this weekend’s construction the following lanes or ramps will be closed:
“We have been in communication with ALDOT about the lane closure this weekend and encourage visitors coming to the BJCC to take alternate routes and drive with caution,” Executive Director Tad Snider said.
