About the Conference:
2019 will mark the sixth anniversary of this summit, which is currently the largest LGBTQ professional conference worldwide. Held in the tech epicenter of the U.S., this tech summit was created to empower some of the most underrepresented populations in the tech space.
Unlike other conferences on this list, the Lesbians Who Tech + Allies San Francisco Summit isn’t a supplier diversity-centric event. Although a myriad of diverse businesses and LGBTQ techies attend this conference, the lectures and workshops are all about the tech world.
Topics range from popular tech trends to discussions about how tech will impact the future, how companies can evolve, and how to achieve career growth in such a competitive industry. It’s attended by all the biggest tech companies and is known for hosting a variety of compelling speakers (including Hillary Clinton).
As a bonus, they’ve even published a “convince your boss to cover your #LWTSUMMIT ticket” letter to help you win over the higher-ups at your company.
Best Match for:
LGBTQ tech professionals and business owners who are looking to connect with other like-minded professionals and stay in the know on industry trends
All types of tech companies and startups that want to network and take part in relevant industry conversations, seminars, and workshops
LGBTQ coders or prospective coders who want to compete for the Edie Windsor Coding Scholarship Fund to jump-start their careers in tech
Companies and professionals that are looking to forge innovative tech partnerships and identify up-and-coming business opportunities
The Lesbians Who Tech + Allies San Francisco Summit is the largest LGBTQ professional event in the world. We focus on increasing the visibility of LGBTQ women, trans and gender nonconforming individuals, LGBTQ people of color, and demographics that are underrepresented in the tech sector and LGBTQ spaces.
We’ve been called, “The best tech conference, ever, ” and, “The most diverse tech conference they’ve ever been to,” and our favorite, “It’s like TED, but with cooler people.”
We are a tech conference first. A tech conference where the speakers happen to be 80% queer women, 50% women of color, 25% black & latinx and 15% transgender and gender non-conforming.
We cover topics from top technical trends, how technology will shape our future, career growth, so our community can grow and thrive. You can view our past Summit agenda below as well as use our letter below to help convince your boss.
Lesbians Who Tech & Allies is a community of LGBTQ women, non-binary and trans individuals in and around tech (and the people who support them).
Our Goals
To Be More Visible To Each Other
We all know that familiar feeling of meeting someone in a work setting, knowing they’re queer, and trying to work it into a conversation. We’re about making that happen by connecting queer women, non-binary, and trans techies, and by building a network of colleagues and friends in the industry.
To Be More Visible To Others
We need more examples of queer, female, trans, GNC, and POC leaders. That means we need to come on stage as the amazing, successful people we are.
To Get More Women, POC, and Queer and Trans People in Technology
Right now, women are some of the most gifted folks in technology. Yet there are far fewer of than there should be: Women account for 1 in 5 people in STEM fields. (That stat is even lower for queer women.)
Because there aren’t enough women, trans, and GNC people in tech, they are rarely quoted as experts by the mainstream media and blogs, serve on panels, and serve in high positions at top tech companies.
To Connect Our Community to Other Organizations and Companies that are Doing Incredible Work
There are so many groups and startups that are fighting for our rights, and they need our support. Lesbians Who Tech & Allies provides a platform to raise awareness of their work, connecting these organizations to queer women, and non-binary and trans people in tech.
