Kate Andersen Brower will offer an unprecedented glimpse into the lives of America’s first families and the people behind the scenes who have helped run the White House. Combining incredible first-person anecdotes from hundreds of hours of interviews with residence staffers–most speaking publicly for the first time–coupled with archival research and candid conversations with three former first ladies and the children of four presidents, Brower will tell the spellbinding stories of the service staff at the White House and the famous families they serve.
The author of two New York Times best-selling books that give an inside glimpse of America’s modern first ladies and the private world of the White House, the author will release her third book, First in Line: Presidents, Vice Presidents and the Pursuit of Power prior to the SMACNA Annual Convention. It will present an intimate, news-making look at the men who are next in line to the most powerful office in the world—the vice presidents of the modern era—from Richard Nixon to Joe Biden to Mike Pence.
Commander Rorke T. Denver has lived an action-filled life, so far. From running every phase of training for the U.S. Navy SEALs including advanced sniper and hand-to-hand fighting; to leading special-forces missions in the Middle East and other international hot spots; to starring in the hit film Act of Valor, based on true SEAL adventures; and even writing a New York Times bestseller about his personal life story, Denver’s life can be summed up in one word: “survival.”
In 2006, he was the officer in charge of BRAVO Platoon of SEAL Team THREE in Iraq’s Al Anbar Province, in one of the most combat-heavy deployments of any regular SEAL team since Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star with “V” for valorous action in combat from those missions. An honor graduate of the United States Army Ranger School, Denver will share his adventures and views on: what makes a hero, why we fight, and what fighting does to us.
Pop singer Andy Grammer’scheerful approach to life combined with his happy, positive lyrics will make a winning combination for a high-spirited ending for SMACNA’s annual convention.
Grammer, probably best known for his 2015 hit, “Honey I’m Good,” said, “as someone who likes to write happy, positive songs, I know they can come across as too sweet.” Andy is both a musician and songwriter, adding “it takes a lot of effort to make something happy not sound cheesy, but I feel like that’s my life’s work. And right now in the world, we need love in all forms.”
The first male pop star in a decade to reach the Top 10 on Adult Pop Radio with his first two singles, Andy Grammer has caught the attention of the music world with a succession of popular toe-tapping hits. His debut album included the platinum singles “Keep Your Head Up” and “Fine by Me.”
Andy’s second album, Magazines or Novels, featured the triple platinum hit “Honey, I’m Good,” which peaked at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100, his highest single on the charts to date, ranking in the 10 best-selling songs of 2015.
His current single “Fresh Eyes” is a certified gold Top 10 hit and has garnered more than 150 million streams.
Andy has made more than 30 national television appearances and shared the stage with musicians Taylor Swift, Shawn Mendes, Florence and the Machine, Rachel Platten, and Train. He debuted his latest album, The Good Parts, in December 2017.
